never done any trading before and am interested in Forex spread betting. I have been reading a lot of the threads and articles on this site and have been having a play on a demo platform to get the hang of how to actually do deals. The question is, when it comes to understanding technical analysis and developing strategies, is this realistically something I can teach myself or would I be better off stumping up the cash to go on a courseto get me started?

I realise that ultimately it will come down to experience but I am struggling to get started on this aspect

buy some good books on trading
I recommend "Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets" by John J. Murphy
it's expensive but it's worth it, the best book I ever read on TA,
"Trading for a Living" by Dr Alexander Elder is also very good

Further down the line you might like Trading in the zone by Mark Douglas.

Everyone has their own opinions and put theory into practice with their own style of trading, they tend to get that from experience. Along the way many read books or do courses and their style develops from that.

Something may work for one person and not another. Its normally a reflection on their personalities coming out in their trading.

I think trading in the zone does a good job in explaining things.

Hiya,

To add, if you were to go on trading course path. Have a look at trade with precision and forex jackal.

If you are really interested on Forex spread betting, I would suggest that you pursue a trading course. You can interact with other people, learn how to develop your own strategies and understand technical analysis through the help of your coaches. I believe that before you proceed to your trading plan, you need to undergo intensive training wherein you can maximize your potential. Reading informational books could be a great help but limited to the idea of how well you understand reading the book.

Most courses are worth jack**** espeically the expensive ones. Better to teach yourself, there's so much free and low cost education around.

But realise this, when you're trading you're up against the best in the world, there are no small time leagues to start off with. So to think you can be good after a few months or even years against people with decades of experience is generally naive. Therefore if you want to get good, use a multi-year time horizon.

Good luck and don't listen to the scam course marketers who'll tell you, for a large fee, that they can teach youy to be profitable within a few weeks/months.

I agree that Most courses are worth jack****
never learnt anything useful in any cource,
maybe there are some good cource out there,
but I don't think there are many though,
the books has been the most valuble source for me.
and by learning from own misstakes.
its like putting salt in your own wounds,
if it hurts then you know you did something wrong :)
