It is quite an interesting article, but a couple of points spring to mind.

It is not stated that the daily ranges are calculated from the time of the release, and therefore theere may have been a significant move before then, not specifically related to the news.

It also doesn't describe how the reversal moves are handled, in so much as an initial spike, followed by a subsequent much larger retracement, such as Feb NFP if memory serves. This would result in one of the moves being classified as negative in my opinion reducing the total aggregate movement.

Just my ideas. Food for though nonetheless.
