Luckily I had zero balance with them. Only traded a few times. The lesson to learn here is, never put all your eggs in one basket. Not just spreading all fund with more brokers for trading, but also have reasonable cash and savings.

Indeed alex2006. Small print makes all the difference. Mind you, many were caught out in 08/09 after spreading cash via different banks only to find out that compensation was limited to the ultimate owner bank.
Bloody hell, this is really quite scary, so where does this leave us? Seems to me that you can do all the due diligance that you want (only use reputable regulated brokers, blah blah) but in the end it doesn't mean squat diddly.
Is there any way of avoiding this? (apart from setting up your own bank/credit union or whatever!
