or is Robert Peston getting really annoying with his hyped-up, highly opinionated spoutings? Just because he 'broke' the Northern Rock troubles last year (yawn), he seems to have been on a BBC sponsored self appraising journey to the front page of the BBC news website, complete with his own blog! It's almost as if he now thinks that he makes the news, bless him. Similarly, if he faux eeerrrms or aaarrs one more time on TV or radio, I'm going to personally pay for his elecution lessons just to ease my pain.

He annoys me intensely.

Thanks for listening.

I agree that his mannerisms can be quite irritating. I do though, think he's done a reasonable job in explaining what's been going on to the great unwashed, ignorant and debt-ridden British public. I think his reports may be a bit more worthwhile than some of the "experts" who phone in their opinions to places such as BBC Radio 5 Live.

Also, it would appear that he's been working a 30 hour day for the last few weeks at least, so he's probably a bit shagged-out though I doubt that will apply to his salary cheque.

Thanks 0007, I was concerned Robert Peston was just another manifestation of my middle age crisis, as I tend to moan about virtually everything and everybody nowadays, and yet am strangely drawn to the Porsche 911? Agreed, he is servicing a need and is probably tired, but he does build up his piece a lot.

I know how you feel - as you get older you see so many unnecessary & irritating things.

Porsche 911? - nice motor but I don't suppose I'll get round to it! When i start to feel a bit grumpy or mature I go for a blast in my Cooper S - relive my youth of Austin Minis and MG Midgets!

he's just having his 15-minutes of fame; he is just the new news-hero, as you say because of Northern Rock.

same thing happened for Michael Burke, when he broke the Ethiopia famine story.
same with Kate Adie with her war-reporting.
they get irritating for a while being used to front programmes, then another hero comes along.

chill, man.

I agree. When he was talking about the first proposed U.S bailout, he said "Bush is talking to Bernanke, Bernanke is talking to Paulson, Paulson is talking to the senate, but no one is talking to me. I'm left in the dark and i need to know what's going on!" As if Robert Peston is some force in global economics! What an ego. Even his fellow journalist being interviewed at the same time via link was looking disgusted in Peston's obvious beliefs regarding his own self-importance.

And another thing, can bbc news 24 get together a team that actually knows what this financial crisis is about. Yes it has been having a huge effect on stocks, however on many occasions i have listened to continual questions about where the bottom is for the stock market and will the bailout plans be enough to stop the stock slide. The bailout is for the CREDIT markets, not the stock markets! Of course it's all related but come on bbc, if you're going to report about this crisis with your very serious faces, at least understand the root cause. There is however one journalist who actually knows what they're talking about, unfortunately for me, his name is Robert PESTon!
