I have traded the Forex E-Micros. The volume is not huge but the liquidity is there. If you have a platform that shows market depth then you will see plenty of contracts at each price level. They are not as liquid as the full size contracts but are more liquid than the mini forex contracts. I think they are a good alternative to the bucket shops. Check it out for yourself and you will see what I mean about the liquidity.

The issue with these micros is that they aren't really micro by forex market standards. They are 10x or more larger than spot market micro contracts, so the smallest of traders are still not really able to go the futures route.

Yes, but there are many spot marketmakers offering only mini-lots (=micro-futures), not micro-lots. I guess micro-lots (spot) are mostly used for scaling and partial entries/exits OR when using autotrading EAs with MT4.

Or when you're a newbie trader insufficiently capitalized (or properly starting only with a very small amount) to trade the minis.

hey guys, this thread is probably dead already, nevertheless, i will try...
1. stupid question first, what is the difference between liquidity and volume, i thought they are the same.
2. so what do you think of current volume and liquidity in cme e-micro currency futures, looks really small and on the chart it is all in gaps, would i be able to get ouf trade ???
3. i want smallest contract size possible 10k is ok, fastest execution, smallest spread, what would you recommend ?
many thanks

Liquidity is the ability to get in and out of the market quickly without having to deal with large spreads and/or slippage. Volume is the amount of trading being done. Higher volume does generally indicate higher liquidity, but it's not necessarily a sure thing, especially during certain timeframes and events.

As long as there is a consistent bid/offer being quoted you'll be able to get out.

The smallest standard contract is the spot micro, which is 1000 units. Some spot brokers like Oanda have no fixed lots, though, so you can trade as little as a single unit.
