I've noticed that on IG you open the positions in contracts, but on CMC it's in 'units'. I assume the units are the respective currency the position is on, NOK, GBP etc.

I was wondering if there is any material difference between the two ways? And how CMC's CFD can be a CFD if it's not measured in contracts? (I have a feeling this is a silly question)

From what I can tell CMC's approach allows a lot more flexibility/precision and IG's suits larger orders. What other, if any, differences are there?

I'm new to the forum so if this question has been asked before - sorry! (But I can't find it) Also if it's relevant to the answer I'm not trading anything big, just playing around at the moment trying to find what's profitable for me. So we're talking minuscule trades.
