Hey all,
I fly to australia sund for a 2 mth break and was wondering if any of you guys have been, and what you wld recommend.......am going to the afl grand final, will get in the sydney derby soccer match, prob some rugby league, and the melb cup. But smthg cultural / geography related (bar swimming in byron bay). Alice springs? Looked at the train ride through central oz, I think to the driest place in the world.......that sounded cool. Maybe hiring a m'bike and doing the coastal road south of melbourne?
Rainforest? Whitsun.....been there but had food poisoning, so shld head back. Perth is so far away but a mate lives there so will head that way.....whats gd in WA? Wine? Little creatures ale in freemantle is top. What else? Help pls......

Am gonna be based in melbourne. Shame chopper passed away.
 
Prob will avoid sydney bar my mates wedding, not been to adelaide. Liked cairns, maybe darwin.....or even do some charity stuff?

**** knows. Its all v exp but at least the fx rate has rebounded from the 1.4 lows I managed to time my last trip. Now a pint only costs min 6 pound.
 
Been over here 23 years.
Must do's are Sydney harbour day and night.
And the Great Barrier reef in Queensland, can snorkel or dive.
20 years ago it was so cheap, but now one of the most expensive places in the world.
Food and drink.
Mind you Aussie dollar seems to be trending down at the moment, and sell into strength seems to be the go.
Aussies have the same sense of humour as the Brits.

I did Aus for 2 years back in the 90's

Sydney is worth it for the harbour

the outback is worth it for experiencing...... the outback !....... and the personalities (alice up to Darwin...anywhere will do ) - watch the film Priscilla queen of the desert for a flavour

Perth , Adelaide , Melbourne....just quaint towns / cities really

western australian beaches are nice up to money mia

gold coast is tacky but fun (Japanese/Chinese tourist full now these days)

cairns northwards is quality rainforest and real characters (ditto above)

ayers rock is overated (make sure you see the olgas)

and perhaps do the nullabore run if you want for the bucket list.......

that's it ;)
