How much per trade

Hi everyone ,
i'm a beginner doing virtual ninjatrader. The question is :
When placing a trade on the s and p 500 what capital does 1 trade represent. For example
I place a trade and it goes up 4 pips , the account balance shows i have made $ 12.50 per pip so a total of $ 50.
But it doesn' t show how much i have to trade in $ to get that amount. So how much would i have to invest per trade to get this $ 12.50 per pip.

If I understand you correctly, that's a question of margin. I believe most competitive brokers require that you put up $500 margin to trade ES.

Just enough that I'm a little nervous, edgy but not so much I'm panic stricken.
