Fascinating article in today's Telegraph about the rise of local currencies in Germany which work as alternatives to the Euro. Particularly interesting is the bit about how they're designed to depreciate to encourage spending rather than saving (could give Gordon Brown some ideas, LOL). Wonder how long before they're tradeable :cheesy:

Thanks...an interesting read.I saw Jim Rodgers last nite on Bloomberg:according to him we have'nt been able to trust any paper money for the last 40 years!!
 
The idea of depreciating currencies was used in 1930's Germany. Their currency was called the "Wara".
