George Soros says Euro crisis is over, start your engines?

The MSM have been very quiet on the Iberian front for the last couple of months when all the talk pre Xmas was if the Spain 'shoe' drops the Euro could reach parity with the dollar..

The Spain 'shoe', is this a convoluted reference to their prime minister, whose name means "shoemaker"?

Taleb is adamant that one should avoid the press on articles of finance, and this is a prime example why. It's just guff, no more no less. You'll have more luck with the horoscopes.

There's the political bias (and with Randall a pathological obsession and hatred of Gordon Brown that some trolls and stalkers on 'ere would be proud of) you then have to accept that so many vested interests blitz the airwaves and MSM with press releases that are in fact marketing initiatives for their product that has space to fill.

On that basis, whilst I keep a weather eye on the fundies and news, I've held the belief that the actions of c.govts and c.banks will eventually bleed onto my fx swing/position trades/charts where I can (hopefully) make judicious decisions. Even the squawk (at least the one us retail chumps get) is too late for decision making imho.

You're a swinger like Tommy Sheridan eh?

How long do your swing trades last typically, and what frequency/month do you get?

Is a swing trade countertrend? I run a shorter term system which I think of as my swing system, so for example it went long EUR/GBP last week and closed yesterday for a 4R profit, but that was arguably with the trend.

It can be both. If the overall trend is broadly up and 'one' takes a swing up from the most recent swing low (some might define this as entering after a substantial pull-back) then it is 'with the trend'. Obviously the opposite applies too.

Of course, people will define swing trading as many different things depending on their view.

Anything is arguable ;-). But out of interest, in this case how have you defined the trend as up?

Short moving average minus long moving average, the simplest method I know.

Actually, looking at the chart again it does look more like a swing trade although it was also a breakout trade.

Taleb's a lucky monkey who got lucky once and then decided to write books about it thinking he was some kind of genius.

They (we) can all define trend in different ways too. In answer to MR I only ever go with the trend (as i define it) and am arguably never in at the b of the bang of the move.
