I am just a small investor with a few thousand in shares to give myself an income to supplemnt my pension and have been increasing angry at the way irresponsable stock exchanges and investers are causing this present stock termal, its about time goverments around the world some how punish where it hurts (money wise)the panic creaters who cause this problem, you cannot always blame the banks or though they have to take there share of the blame the lame excuses that come out for causing a panic sell are pathetic any ideas
anyone and no rude ones:

In my view it is governments around the world that are the architects of what is causing this issue. Basically, governments are spending more than they are able to get in tax and have done for decades if this was not the case then there would be no reason for the market turmoil we are currently seeing.

Markets are merely reacting to:

a. the realisations that The euro zone is unsunstainable in it's present form and the Eu authorities response has been pitiful...sticky plaster liquidity based responses to structural/solvency issues.
b. The Us's addiction to spending and political inability to get a hold of it's fiscal position in a meaningful way
c. The western economy's anemic short-medium term growth prospects and indeed longer term re a. and b. above.

These ideas have been growing for a while and like all ideas if/when their time comes...they have built up a critical mass and the tipping point has been reached....only now will the politicians react.

Part to blame pehaps but will not excuse the investors to act like lemens and follow and cause a panic like we see now

For years, governments, citizens, banks, politicians have been acting irresponsibly. The markets are a mere reflection. We are now starting to adjust to reality (hopefully). Many will get hurt - and many of those will suffer unfairly. But that's the way of the world.

Same reply as to Paul, investers only make the problem worse by there actions I know actions speak louder than words but selling this way is just as irresponsible

If you are just holding the shares to supplement your pension then surely it doesn't matter too much where the price is today or tomorrow; if you selected a company with good fundamentals just wait for them to deliver their good dividends?

I can understand why traders are pissed off/scared at the moment, but not long term investors (unless you are highly leveraged).

Anyway, good luck, I don't think this will go on forever. Some will win and others will lose in this turmoil, but if you're divested entirely or are a buy-and-hold type you are effectively on the sidelines. Maybe you could even snap up some underpriced stocks?

007: the LMFCO! comment on the rep was meant for Hotch's post. My bad. :)

(I would still recommend your post though).

What's the problem if you're using them for income? People dumping stock won't affect your dividends.

Besides, this is only temporary, the bull market will resume soon enough.:)

I think it should be illegal to sell stocks once you've bought them.

A continuation of the cyclical bull, or a new secular bull?

I guess when you see the so called leaders of the free world (American government) behaving like a bunch of 5 year olds in a pissing contest the very same week the Europeans say 'Yea, we'll deal with the huge debt problem' before ****ing off on long summer holidays people get a bit scared.

Markets react because of fear and greed. The idiots we elected caused the fear. Actions have consequences. Simple as.

There speaks a man in a Buy and Hold position (s) .. you're an investor now !

Were you on here complaining about irresponsible buyers when markets were doubling since 2009 with barely a stutter along the way?

I don't wish to be harsh, but this is how free markets work. The alternative would end up with you owning no shares at all. Plus you might be sent to Siberia for hoarding grain.

Charles,

Did you really think depression 2.0 was over, did you really believe the msm when they told you we were out of the recession? If so I'm sorry to say this you're a mug, but you're not the biggest, that's exclusively for those with jumbo mortgages or several mortgages who think house prices aren't going to crash..

We all knew that the USA politicians would agree the new debt ceiling, to be fair most of us didn't anticipate such a sell off even if the indices had to fall to justify the next round of QE. But here's a thing which makes me very suspicious and makes me realise that the game is rigged, where is the circuit breaker Obama and ickle Timmy G put in place, why hasn't it triggered? Where is the ppt?

The real shame is that you've been stiffed twice as the little guy, first back in 2008-2009 and now in 2011, compound the misery with pensions and zirp interest on your savings and it really is a clusterfook. If there is some guy sitting there stroking his white cat doing the muhahahahaha now the plan to rob all the muddled classes of their illusory wealth to transfer to the elite is nearing completion then hats off, it's worked a treat..

Count yourself lucky you got a pension Charles, as i think those will be taken next over the coming generations.

They are lifting the requirements for companies to pay benefits to workers over the age of 65 and also the retirement requirement.

It's gonna get worse buddy !

see IG mark the FTSE down to 4870 already...... before tomorrows open ?
