I used to watch all his TV programmes. Amazing man who seemed able to turn his hand to anything mechanical. Seems his first wife got fed up with engine bits on the kitchen table What caught my attention , at the time, was his method of lighting bonfires to bring a chimney stack tumbling down, as an alternative to using explosives to do same.
He died of cancer having refused treatment, or so I read. bet many a "health and safety" bod today would have a fit watching him work. He was also a fan of steam engine rallies I believe. Interesting man who led an interesting life.
