It is said that it's better to go by exchange-traded stuff because there's a centralized, supervised, and regulated environment in which to trade where you have access to order flow info, so this would point to ES potentially being superior.
Then again, maybe you're just more comfortable doing FX. So long as you're making money, it's all flavour...

I prefer futures. There are obvious advantages - book, regulated exchange and so on.
The key thing is that whatever you do, trade the real market. Forex (and also futures or their version thereof) through a bucket shop is unlikely to bring you joy.
