does swing trading work when dow goes 50 down 2 days then 400 up 2 days

Can't see why not. The uncertain economic climate, of course, might mean that it's riskier to try swinging.

I am sure others will publish there favorite reads or just do a search on this thread / site and you will find plenty of answers for books. Try looking at The Pattern Site.com which is also a good reference site. There are many, many more
