I have just bought some software.
They are asking for my CID code to activate the software.
What do they mean ? Or is it a scam of some sort ?

when you say cid code, is this the security number on the back of a credit/debit card?

if so, and you paid for the software via credit/debit card then you could have likely already given the vendor those details already? and they may have possibly linked the software activation to your details?

what software did you buy? who from? and what details have you given out so far?

These are the emails back and forth. Yes I did give them my details from a barclaycard.

ah! I don't believe it's anything to do with credit card info at all.

I think they're asking you to run a mt4 file. this file will unlock the mt4 software you've purchased, look for a file called showmycid.exe or it could be also named showmycid ex4, this believe this is what they want you to run. can't say how safe that is though, should be ok??

I may be making a mistake but am letting them remotely install the programme.

have they done yet?

did you look in any of the emails they sent you, it may be an attachment you haven't seen, haven't downloaded yet, hence can't find it in a search.

try looking at any emails they've sent you before letting them loose on your pc.

No sign of any acivity yet and no attachments so I sent them a note to say they have some free advertising on T2W.

it's not something that is found, it is a code drawn from the pc itself, he should have been sent a file that will read this code, he then sends it to them, this then unlocks the mt4 indicator and locks it to pats pc. it looks to be straight forward except pat appears to lack the file to do the reading, or any coherent instruction on the retrieving of the cid for the licensing.

I think I may have solved the problem by downloading something called Winrar to download it into.
What a palaver just to download a bit of software. It was a .rar file originally.

I think CID stands for computer identification code

Still no download !! but still answering. Here is their latest email - I send details and wait and wait ..........nothing.

What was the indicator and who did you purchase it from ? Be very careful allowing anyone to use Teamviewer who you don't know as it grants full access to your pc.

You were conned, even if the software arrived you were still conned. An indicator that can 'make anyone rich'? How did you think it was going to work out? Get your credit card company to refund the money and stop buying crap like this.

Yes you are probably right. It was after searching through dozens of useless EAs on the web, it looked good.
Some never learn imho

The only redeeming aspect of this is that as you purchased it through Clickbank then they are unlikely to be a fraud. Also with Clickbank you have nothing to lose as they have to offer a money back guarantee.
