Cass and Imperial College MBA Question

Hello,

I am American with an undergraduate degree from NYU in finance with a 3.3 GPA (Class of 2010). I currently have about 2 years work experience working for the Public School District in New York City as a Financial Analyst (for the School District's budget office). Would love to get my MBA to transition into a more challenging finance related career. I haven't taken the GMAT yet. Looking to apply to B-school for next years intake. I have a few simple questions for current or previous students about Cass Business School.

1. Do you think its a good school?

2. I hear from other forums that Cass does not offer a student visa to allow you to work in the UK after graduating? Is this true? If so, is it just Cass or do all the B-schools in the UK follow this new law? (supposedly goes into affect April 2012)

3. Based on my brief profile do you think I have a good chance of getting accepted to Cass for Full time MBA next year (I'll have 3 years experience by then)? Anyone know the acceptance rate?

4. Does Cass have a good reputation in business in London? Globally?

5. How happy are you with your current/previous experience at Cass?

I would love to do my MBA in London (its a dream of mine to live there for a while) I've been looking into LBS, Imperial, and Cass. Not sure about my chances for LBS but I would like to know what everyone thinks. I've done some research just would like an unbiased opinion first hand from real students and alumni. Anything anyone can tell me in regards to Cass/Imperial would be great! Thanks!!

1. Imperial is one of the best schools in the country. Cass is where people when they can't get into Oxbridge, LSE, London Business School or Imperial amongst a few others.

2. No school offers a visa, visas are issued by the Home Office. Dunno about new rules but when I was there if you graduated you would be automatically eligible for a 2 year work visa.

4. When people see Cass on a CV they think 'couldn't get into LSE eh?' Doesn't matter how 'good' the course is, doesn't matter that LSE doesn't have a full time MBA course, the name matters more when job apping.

5. Check out Oxford's Said Business school too.

Edit: 3.3 GPA eh? Not sure well that will go down at the top schools...

I figured my GPA wasn't up to par. But I've taken two full scale practice GMATs and I've scored very close to 700 both times. If I were to get that score when I take the real test do you think that would make a difference? Or is the GPA more important than GMAT in UK business schools?

And the point about the visa, that's what I was referring to, the 2 year work visa after graduating. Someone said that you can no longer be eligible for that if you graduate from Cass. Just hoping that's not the case.

Also, did you go to Cass? or Imperial? If so, what didn't you like about it?

There's a big difference between City University and Cass Business School. Cass is one of the better ranked UK schools for an MBA, not as good as the LBS but better than most.

City University as a whole, however is rather medicore but for postgrad courses Cass should be viewed as a seperate entity IMO.

As you mentioned, Imperial is one the most respected schools in the world and attracts students from all over the world and from different backgrounds. You didn't touch on your interests, motivations and other experiences. These are some of things you should highlight in applications as well as GPA and the GMAT score. You can find out more students who have been to Imperial at MBA news and networking site BusinessBecause. It might give you a better feel for the school and help you decide if you'll be a good fit.

Having an MBA is overrated. If you must, go to a top school. Having relevant experience beats qualification any time.
