Hi,

I am shortly about to start trading as a local in an arcade and need to get an accountant (to set up a ltd company and handle taxes etc.) Can anyone recommend an accountant who deals with this? Have been recommended one in Chelmsford who specialises in locals, but would ideally like one based in Central or South/SW/SE London as Chelmsford is pretty far from me.

Any help will be much appreciated, also any general tips/hints etc about dealing with these kind of things.

Cheers

I use http://www.a4gsolutions.co.uk/ who have a specific thing for locals.

I would appreciate it if you go through me though, cause there's a (moderate!) referral scheme. I'll split half my rebate with ya so we both do better out of it...

Thanks mate, will go thru you if I end up using them.

Wondered what costs were like, just a rough idea - also, how much do you use them? Is it a monthly thing, totting up expenses/receipts etc?

Thanks.

well, they just nag me and eventually I send them stuff, it about 2 or 3k a year, not really paying attention. Actually thinking about it, it may be a bit more but it deffo less than 4k.

I do the LLP + LTD structure thing. You have an LTD, and you also have an LLP where you are a partner with your LTD in the LLP. I don't remember why, but this is useful (either that or it means they can do 3 accounts, but I trust em :D)

If you were more responsible than me you could do it cheaper for sure. I have a phobia of accountants the way other people have phobias of dentists.

When you're staring off no reason you cannot being with LTD though, then work your way up from there.

Right, this could be something I'm overlooking or could be lulzy. Either way please look into this for me.

I recently changed accountant after several years. I was reluctant to use an accountancy firm from the internet but after a recommendation, I decided to speak to a firm of accountants called Competitive Accountancy. The fees seemed a lot lower and this initially put me off, but I can say I am pleasantly surprised with their service and think the would be well worth speaking to.

Been thinking about that LLP+LTD thing and I can't see how it's not a h*rse**** structure for income. The only way you could ever benefit is if you were to leave the profits in the LTD and move the shares on for Entre Rel CGT at a later date. If you tried to do it on a year by year you'd end up selling a stake in your LLP (your own earnings) by proxy.
The real concern is that if you're stripping out / taking everything as income you can actually pay more tax than you need to using an either or solution - bracket/income dependant of course. I honestly hope not too many people are getting scammed with this sort of nonsense. Some accountants are as bad as lawyers when it comes to making that sale dawgs.
