What brokers out there are actually offering service for college students (who obviously don't earn $50,000 per year like what MBTrade demands)...

If any of you are college students, what brokers do you use?

Will thinkorswim work out?

well it's basically stocks and stuff...nothing fancy

Stock is stock, other stuff is other stuff, different brokers have different specialization, but if you want to start cheap and try a bit of everything then IG Index may be a good choice.

basically I just need a stock broker with low commission (preferable a per-share commission structure) and low/no requirements on minimum net worth and minimum income

also I live in the US, so I would say that a US based broker is preferable, but any international broker that accepts international application is fine

IG Index may be a good choice.

Thanks a lot, I'll take a look at it

Hoping to hear more suggestions

oanda, if u trade forex, stocks...not reli ideal to be trading if you have no money cos comissions are a lot and being in america u cant spreadbet...igmarkets?

For stocks any of the discount brokers you hear about (Schwab, ETrade, Scotrade, etc.) will probably be fine. Just pick the one you feel most comfortable with.

Hi johanesw,

If you're trading forex, your best bet is to start with micro lots. I'm assuming you have limited capital in college speaking from my college days experience. Otherwise you will be too overleveraged trading larger sizes with a limited amount of capital.

I trade with CMC markets for spreadbetting, they let me open with £200, no major problems with them at all.

I have just checked partymarkets out, offer 10p per point for spreadbetting, much better for the student risk profile.

But the OP would appear to be a New Yorker so it may be illegal for them to use [ as mentioned before ] a spreadbetting firm.

Didn't read the post, excuse me straddle.

In that case the world isn't your oyster.

Yes... Because Americans can spreadbet...Nice one.

Anyone got recommendations for the exact same thing, but for someone based in the UK?

Scott trade, trade king etc. all need you to be based in the US.
