Does anyone here use a Bloomberg or Reuters terminal? how are they? I've heard that Reuters releases data on their terminal faster than their competitors and the lease is cheaper, is this true? Thanks for your input.
I use both, reuters is no faster than bloomberg. To be honest you only really need one or the other and reuters is slightly cheaper. If all you're going to use it for is news releases then I'd recommend reuters.
As Jules190 said they are much of a muchness speed wise. Rarely could you tell them apart just by looking at them. You're paying for a lot more than just speedy data releases though.
It isn't some magic map to free money. It'sjust a news/information source and isn't going to immediately pay for itself. I'd hazard a guess that if you're experience is such that you are asking these sorts of questions on a forum 2k per month on Bloomberg or Reuters is unlikely to be money well spent.
Bloomberg is a Rolls Royce of trading platforms with a RR price tag as well. No doubt it is one of the best trading platform, if you are willing to pay the price. Reuters latest trading platform Eikon has not been getting positive review in the media lately.
I would also consider ProphetX, another market leading trading platform to access market data including spot/futures pricing, news, weather and integrated order execution.
Note/Disclosure: I have been in the trading technology side of the industry for several years now and currently am the product manager for ProphetX, which has been leading trading platform in U.S. for more than two deacdes and now gaining popularity in Europe as well.
