Many years ago, when I was still a student, I went to a casino in a group with some of my pals. They concentated their attention on a slot machine and poured a lot of coins into it. The beast swallowed the lot.
The bet was a shilling. Among the loose change I had in my pocket there was a shilling. I put it into the slot and pulled the handle. The beast made a lot of noise and started to churn out coins. There were so many that I took off my pullover to be able to carry them. I took this booty to the cashier who was very surprised and gave me an odd, knowing sort of smile. The prize was £50. I took his smile to be an omen.
I yanked the lot of them out of there and treated them all to dinner and drinks and the cinema the following day. That was the first time I ever had a go on a slot machine. It taught me an important lesson about taking silly risks. I have never been anywhere near another slot machine since. I have been a member of several casinos for a very long time. I never gamble in any of them, I never gamble, period. I only find them convenient when in town to have drinks and a meal and to entertain my friends and to point out the collective and inevitable folly of humanity en masse.
Kind Regards.
