I am a trader and technical analyst on the New York Mercantile Exchange. I am interesting in learning how to backtest my ideas. I have no programming or backtesting experience.
Several colleagues have recommended programs like Amibroker. But before I dive in, I want to build a solid foundation.
Are there good programming 101 books/websites out there? I'm not looking to become an expert. But I want to learn the "right way" from the ground up.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome!

The book Evidence Based Technical Analysis by David R Aronson is outstanding if you want to learn to do backtesting correctly from day 1. As far as programming languages go, Tradestation's EasyLanguage is pretty straightforward.
