I need to find FTSE 100 shares (or shares within other markets) with an ATR <50. Are these figures available online anywhere or would I have to calculate this. If so what is the calculation and over what time span should I base it?

The Traderpedia has limited info :(

For your information I was kindly advised that such low volatile shares would be ideal to start trading with and therefore would be less likely to wipe me out!

If you use ProRealTime, you can do this. End of day data is free on it.

By opening the programmable workstation, you can program the system using 'proscreener'. Do this by adding ATR to a chart and then selecting this and telling the system to scan for ATR less than 50. You can then select whether you want it to scan FTSE100 or FTSE250. It wil then scan whichever is chosen and produce a list for you.

Hope this helps.

When you get the screens up, add ATR to the chart you have on screen.
Then
- go to Display and scroll down to Proscreener and select this.

Click on Proscreener management.

Create Proscreener - Assisted creation

Click on Proscreener conditions

Add condition - and click on the ATR on the chart shown. This brings up a box where you can tell it to screen for ATR less than/more than - and set a value.

Select criterion - I tried this at 'variation from yesterday' and it worked ok.
Give the proscreener a name and then click ok

Next - on the right of the screen you can select the index/list you want to screen - FTSE 350 or FTSE100 etc.

Then ask it to validate program and it should generate a list for you.

Hope this helps.
