Hi folks. I'm interested in buying an iphone/android thing to give me more control over trading. I don't like sitting in front of a screen for hours, indeed I don't really need to. I can set things upand then I want to set alerts to tell me when levels are hit. Then I can check the chart and respond via the iphone/andriod. I understand aps from IG, for example give this sort of facility. Anybody out there using them and could they advise on how useful the ap is and which device seems the more effective (ipone or android). Feel a bit if an idiot even asking this question. Grateful for any thoughts and apols in advance if this has been covered elsewhere. I have looked and unseen it.

i have an i phone 4 and i regularly trade with it when im out and about using ig.
no probs with wi fi or 3g

I-phone is Ok for prices but I wouldn't want to trust it to close a trade in a hurry! I use it mainly for live prices and deal via PC/telephone. It all looks great on IG/Paddypower etc until you want a price in a fast moving market and your 3G fails!!

ive done over 300 R/Ts with the iphone with ig. ftse only £8 a point but fills have been instant

Interesting, tks. I trade with limits so not usually wanting out rapido. I would want a msg when a trade goes live then I'ld put on a trailing stop via iphone. Also notice of limit up or stop out and when the latter consider via on-iphone chart possibility of re-entry, also via iphone. Basically looking for a bit more control. I go nuts in front of a screen for too long and don't trust set and forge techiques either!

agree with that, i use the apps from fxcm and ig to monitor positions if i am out and about, but given the way that 3g can be interupted suddenly (on train for example) i wouldnt use it to initate a trade.

I recall once, a few weeks ago, I had entered a trade and the electricity went off! Luckily, I had the Interactive Brokers app installed on my iphone, so using the 3g network, I closed the position through my phone. Much better than having to call up IB to close it. That could also be another reason to get a smartphone.

Got an iphone today and fiddled for coupla hours, very hamfisted, but the IG ap is loaded and functioning. Not overimpressed but will find out tomorrow if it will do its job. Had hoped for better charts, unless I'm missing something.

Getting my iphone 4 today and hope to use it likewise!

hi Masterful. Did you get your iphone and how's it going? I can't get it to receive alerts or get a cursor on the charts. Can you? More to the point, can it do that? This ig I'm on about.

I've seeb IGs and FXCMs apps so far. IGs looks, not too bad and maybe useable....FXCMs has a LONG way to go to be usable IMHO - it's looking good but charting is only 5 min line charts and that's it, no bars, candles, no other timeframes and until the last update a few weeks ago you couldn't change stops etc on it either - want to know the 4 hour low? tough! LOL. The front end looks nice though - very much in the style of their Marketscope platform but it should not really be on the store yet.
I think I've heard you can get MT4 now for iphone? No idea how good it is though.
