Can anyone enlighten me as to what the difference is between the following laptop cpu's.

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/prod...9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=116839&_LOC=UK

http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=337315&tab=specification

Which one is newer/faster?

I have searched high and dry but have yet to come up with an answer.

Thanks

The processor for the ebuyer model is 1.86GHZ while the Comet one is 1.6GHZ. The ebuyer model is therefore faster/newer.

Thanks mojazz, what does the TL56 refer to in the ebuyer model?

I would rather have a newer slower cpu as opposed to an older faster one if that makes sense.

Hi mojazz. The Comet one is dual-core, unlike the ebuyer. Could that result in an effective increase in speed?

You may be mistaken there Peto, this is what the ebuyer extended spec has listed for cpu:

Processor AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology TL-56 / 1.86 GHz
Multi-Core Technology Dual-Core

i've had nothing but trouble with FS laptops so I would steer clear (imho).

Toshiba/Sony/Acer (cheap and good) all good.

Also might be worth waiting 8 weeks or so until hardware starts shipping with Windows Vista?

Thanks Roguetrader - As Matt advised; worth waiting for vista post xmas.

Yeah, possibly, certainly if you wanna run the Vista OS, personally I won't be runnin that for a few years, bottom line with tech the longer you wait the more you will get for less, there are going to be a lot of good offers on the run up to christmas and Jan sales to clear most of the XP stock, I wonder just how much will be on offer when it appears
