Seth Davis (Giovanni Ribisi) is a 19-year-old college dropout who strives for approval from his father (Ron Rifkin), a judge who is horrified that his son operates a 24-hour illicit casino. When an old friend visits the casino with a fellow broker, Davis is impressed by their wads of money and yellow Ferrari, and decides to join the firm. In no time he's making sales and settling into the groove of the office and all the after-hours perks, but the dream fades when Davis discovers the scam that is making all of the brokers wealthy beyond their dreams.

You Want details? Fine. "Boiler Room" is a very interesting, entertaining, and to a degree, educational movie. Seth starts out as this money hungry kid (who runs his own illegal backdoor casino) that wants to fall backwards into wealth without working for it. Fine, most of the people are the same way. I was impressed with this movie. When I first saw it, I loved it. Absolutely loved it. I felt better about myself for some reason, I felt more confident and wanted to go out and tackle the world. It's just a refreshing movie to watch as you see Seth Davis (Giovanni Ribisi) slip into this different world of Wall Street and how far he goes. The Notorious BIG said it best: "Either you're slingin' crack-rock, or you've got a wicked jump-shot." Nobody wants to work for it anymore. There's no honor in taking that after school job at Mickey Dee's, honor's in the dollar, kid. So I went the white boy way of slinging crack-rock: I became a stock broker. Anybody who tells you money is the root of all evil doesn't f**king have any.
Best Trading Film

This seems to be the best movie about the stock market and what goes on behind the scenes in the pump-and-dump parasitic world that we all know or have heard about. extremely well written and played, incredibly entertaining, a great story.
Wall Street for the internet era.

Highly recommend this film. The underlying scam may be a little too far fetched but don't let that detract from the overall film.

Its energetic, fast-paced, with dialogue of the quality found in Glen Gary Glen Ross (very good). Unlike Wall Street which was a masterpiece from a top director with two major stars at the time, Boiler Room takes relatively unknown actors , and makes them into stars. Giovanni Ribisi (better known as Phoebe's weird brother in Friends) is perfect as the lead, while Vin Diesel actually puts in a star performace. Even Ben Affleck has a show stealing scene that is worth watching over and over.

Boiler Room pays homage to the films in its genre (ie it borrows heavily) but it pulls it off and then some.
