Let me clarify - I'm interested in Selftrade's SB account as I have a normal share account with them - I'm not looking for SB accounts in general.

Fins is OK, but not world-beating - providing you're not behind a strong firewall. If you are heavily protected, it's a nightmare - very very slow, if it works at all. One of Capital Spreads great advantages for me, is that it will work well through a corporate firewall

The other replies have pretty much done the PC route to death - but have you considered the alternative of just buying a CD recorder for your hifi? Depending how valuable you consider the recordings, you can get a new one for about £200 or there's one going on eBay at the moment for around £30

Not a good choice of example, there: I haven't read a MS license recently, but they certainly used to explicitly grant the right to install on desktop + laptop/work + home from one license, provided only one was used at a time.
