    Selftrade spreadbet platform?

Let me clarify - I'm interested in Selftrade's SB account as I have a normal share account with them - I'm not looking for SB accounts in general.

    Selftrade spreadbet platform?

The new Selftrade-branded platform went live yesterday, looking remarkably like the SqaureGain platform (which looked remarkably like the DLJdirect platform). However, Selftrade also has CFD and spreadbet available. Has anyone used either of these? I'm not that bothered about the CFD side, but...

    Fins Ain't Wot They...

I've found the new Fins platform very slow, and I can only get it to connect at all from home. This version is even worse than the last version at working through firewalls - can't get any data at all on this one.

    Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam

It's to try to get the message past the heuristic filters in some spam blocking programs. They rate messages by trying to "understand" the content, which works by the proximity of certain words to certain other words. What I don't understand is (a) why, having fooled someone into reading some...

    Alan Rich

Hang on, that can't be right - are you seeing that the real world is not on this planet? Suddenly the secret conspiracy of Market Martians makes complete sense!

    Xp V W2k

The major problem you will have with W2k is that MS is winding down upgrade support - there will be no more service packs. There is also (and always has been) limited driver support for win2k, compared to XP, which may or may not be a problem for you. I liked W2K a lot, but ultimately I...

    current best SB

Fins is OK, but not world-beating - providing you're not behind a strong firewall. If you are heavily protected, it's a nightmare - very very slow, if it works at all. One of Capital Spreads great advantages for me, is that it will work well through a corporate firewall

Best Thread The Arcade Traders "Pit Stories" Thread

And yet, bizarrely, some members of the general public seem to form the impression that dealers were obnoxious, immature d!ckheads!

    Windows directory in C drive

Maybe s/he means, "I know there is a windows directory, but it's not called c:\windows, and want to know what it is?" In which case: open a dos box (Start, programs, accessories, command prompt), in the dos box type Set and hit Return. Look for the entry Systemroot= ... whatever that entry...

    george best is dead

I'm not condoning anyone heckling or jeering, but OTOH, none of them were at "funeral, wake, or act of remembrance" - they were at football games, where a commemoration had been inserted into the proceedings, whether they wanted it or not - it's not like they chose to go to a memorial and then...

    george best is dead

There's been a huge amount of discussion about this on football websites - I'm a West Ham fan, and the for/against Best thread on the KUMB site runs to over 25 pages. Opinions are very divided - some think (1) he should be respected because he's dead, regardless of anything else; some think (2)...

    Sharescope

This included in last night's update from Sharescope: For a trial period, we have decided to extend our software licence to allow members to update ShareScope on TWO personal machines for use by the member only. This will cater for members who like to have a copy of ShareScope on a work PC or...

    Transferring audio tapes to CD

The other replies have pretty much done the PC route to death - but have you considered the alternative of just buying a CD recorder for your hifi? Depending how valuable you consider the recordings, you can get a new one for about £200 or there's one going on eBay at the moment for around £30

    Sharescope

Not a good choice of example, there: I haven't read a MS license recently, but they certainly used to explicitly grant the right to install on desktop + laptop/work + home from one license, provided only one was used at a time.
