    Paper trading large accounts

Company policy prevents me from actively trading. So instead I am constantly trying to find new ways to challenge myself with paper trading. My most recent experiment has been to try managing large positions. I've found it's very possible (and very dangerous) to double a $100,000 account with...

    thinkORswim DELAYED DATA....solutions?

This has been a thorn in my side for a while. The charts and stock quotes are all up to date, but tos delays option quotes and the order book by 20 minutes. I also hate how everything is talked on their system. I'd like to do all of my simulations on my local machine without sending my paper...

Trading my Account while in Finance Industry

You can invest with your own account, but there are strict rules to prevent trading. For instance, where I work you are required to hold all positions for a month unless you experience a 15% loss on the security. To satisfy the trading itch I just papertrade. I use publicly available market...

Do CNBC/Bloomberg & other financial media help or hinder?

I've found CNBC to be a useful tool, but you have to use it correctly. It's very easy to get caught up in what people say on TV and lose money. You simply have to learn how to rise above such things. Part of it is just realizing what's reliable. You aren't missing out on much when Mr...

    Things to memorize?

I've been putting together a list of things that I want to memorize. I'll carry them around with me on a paper, and memorize them during my commute. Right now I am planning on memorizing the Dow-30 stocks, and contact specifications of popular futures. I was wondering if you guys had your own...

How about C# 4.0 + IB for execution system?

It's not going to matter unless you are pulling huge volume. C#'s biggest advantage is native gui interfaces. I would just go with what you feel the most confident in. If you are really that interested in parallel execution take a look at google go as well.

How many trades should I make in a demo account before progressing onwards.

Your approach with paper trading should be more goal focused. When you've accomplish your goals you move on. Did you achieve the profitability you wanted, are you confident in what you learned, and did your experience cover a wide variety of market conditions? In this instance you want to...

    CMSs: Joomla any good?

It depends on what you are doing. If you are writing blog posts then nothing does a better job than wordpress. Joomla is better for a more full featured content portal. I've only ever found it useful for larger projects, and in those instances I always found it better to just use django or...

Accounting for slippage in paper trading?

They absolutely can, and do. It's not uncommon for large institutions to impose such restrictions as a condition of employment. Think back to the recent controversy surrounding Warren Buffet. One of the main criticisms was that they didn't do this. If Berkshire carefully regulated how it's...

Accounting for slippage in paper trading?

Wow, thanks for the advice guys. Certainly dishonesty and disregard for company policy is the way way to go. I'm sure that the trading desks will jump at the chance to hire me once I show them the accounts I've been trading on the side.

Accounting for slippage in paper trading?

I guess the larger issue here is that I've really outgrown the paper trading, but can't trade a real account. I've been using my current strategy every since since August of last year. I've been watching the markets and trading in general since everything feel apart in October 2008. I feel...

Accounting for slippage in paper trading?

Long introduction, so bear with me... I do technology at a large US bank, and eventually want to be a trader. I've been paper trading to gain experience until I either have enough money to go it on my own, or can get a job trading at a firm. To do this there's a few hurdles I have to jump. I...

    Sticky Introduce Yourself

Hey guys, I'm a techie trying to find my way into trading. I was finishing up my Computer Science degree when the financial crisis started happening. I was really big into social networking and politics at the time. I knew the collapse would be a big deal so I started casually paper trading...
