    Potential mass exodus from Spreadbetters.

Spot on! Not having to make money trading changes things completely!

    Potential mass exodus from Spreadbetters.

I moved broker to keep my leverage, but hardly traded in August anyway. Can't see myself going back to UK spread-better, unless the regulations spread to sunnier climes... How about you? Did you decide what to do in the end?

Looking for a platform offering mini lots, tight spreads and not affected by ESMA

Hi Thomas Australian IC Markets fit your criteria. Good luck :-)

    Escaping the ESMA ruling

Yes, that's pretty much it! For traders who always define their maximum risk via stop loss orders, the whole thing is infuriating!

    Death of SB

Oh and another one... “Most people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility, and most people are frightened of responsibility.” - Sigmund Freud

    Death of SB

My favourite quote in relation to ESMA's new rules: (can you tell I'm still sore?...) “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.” - C.S. Lewis

    Death of SB

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that SB providers would lose less than 25% revenue from retail traders quitting, or going elsewhere. It seems the "professionals" make up most of their revenue. The criteria for qualifying as "professional" doesn't help in any way imho. If I had £500,000...

    Escaping the ESMA ruling

I honestly don't think you'll find any spread betting outside of the UK. The closest you'll get are non-EU brokers offering CFDs with high leverage, and of course any profits will be taxable. One option is to move to non-EU CFDs, build up a large bank and then move back to spread betting once...

Trade CFDs on stocks with high leverage

No. IC Markets in Australia are still accepting EU clients, not sure about after 1st August though...

Spread Betting - Register as a Professional Client or a Retail Client??

I'm not eligible to register as a professional client and so (unless somethings changes between now and 1st August) I'm moving over to IC Markets.

    Potential mass exodus from Spreadbetters.

I'm not a tax expert but pretty sure UK residents using an Aussie broker like IC Markets would only pay taxes in UK.

I'm trying out CTrader for now...

    Potential mass exodus from Spreadbetters.

Yep, had the heads up from IG earlier this week, that it all starts on 1st August for the instruments I trade. I've just opened an account with IC Markets and plan on spending the next 8 weeks getting used to the platform so that it's all good come August. Pretty gutted that it's come to this...

Calling all traders who "get it"

Definitely agree, each has their own strengths and weaknesses. Just the thought of programming/automation fills me with dread! I laughed reading your comments on exercise. It reminds me of a T-shirt my friend has which reads "I run because I love food"

Calling all traders who "get it"

Life or death sounds a bit scary! :cheesy: But you know what, I wonder is it's all about consistency? Life or death on EVERY trade, or chilled out on EVERY trade. It doesn't matter which approach a trader chooses, as long as it's the best choice for their temperament and they're CONSISTENT. As...
