So what is the fundamental basis for not buying it below $20? Hype is in all markets and all products, it is a fact of markets hence the saying "markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent." Also, hype goes both ways, people believe a stock will soar just as much as they...

lol, I agree, was reading something the other day about how a lot of the mainstream media has made the fiscal cliff into such a big issue when in reality whilst it will be important, it's not a massive game changer and the market will adapt! still if everyone's frightened by it then it's a good...

    Fundamental Analysis (Equities)

It depends, are we talking purely equities or more general? If equities then you need to obviously be honed into what factors affect specific sectors etc. eg cyclical sectors and what not. If you're talking more generally then you should be reading as much as possible in terms of what is...

Crazy volume went through overnight, 11k in under a min which during Asia is a lot! Someone's stop got severely busted so i hear!! Messed up my Taiwan short trade but was interesting to watch the panic lol. My main interest now is to see how much a fiscal cliff resolution would add to current...

Still going up, it's quite amusing to see "analysts" changing their recommendation to buy or overweight and admitting they got it wrong :)

UBS rogue trader also lost 123K spread betting

I agree, perfect (pure) arbitrage as opposed to cross arb opportunities generally exist for a very small amount of time (invariably less than a second). I think you'll find funds such as Brevan, Bluecrest, Bridgewater etc whilst employing a huge amount of quant research and running arb strats...

haha, occasionally it is actually alright to punt (IMHO)...... In a calculated way of course! ;) Good discussion though :)

Ok, firstly, if you read my earlier posts, you'll see that's exactly what I said, it was probably worth a punt at $18. There are a lot of unknowns as with the majority of tech IPOs that is the same. Secondly, what you have pasted there from means very little without context (apart from the...

True as I said in one of my earlier posts, it is a fairly risky trade but I think below 20 it offers a decent amount of risk/reward. I mean in a couple of years it could be trading at 5 or it could be trading at 50......those are the kind of odds that I don't mind taking. Also, with 1...

google smoogle :) seriously tho, trying to get long below 20 was all about what I perceived to be an over-reaction in relation to some very good things about the company. Google may take some market share over the LT but in reality, google is fighting on many fronts in that, it is trying to...

What would you buy and hold now?

Not sure about shorting facebook and zinga, i'd rather buy fb and sell znga for a lot of different reasons but none of them the fiscal cliff. Think about it, if you are really short of cash (because taxes have gone up), are you going to be going out all the time or sitting at home on the net...

Oh ye of little faith! Markets are tanking but strangely not facebook. Well done Barrons for such a great call. Oh btw, I would NEVER trust Barrons on a call that has not been made by at least one other respected outfit (ie a decent asset manager or equity analyst)...... my reasoning is quite...

    stupid questions about bonds

If they are treasury bonds from the 70s then they would have matured hence the only option now would be to go to your local bank and cash it in. It is pointless holding onto it unless it has either a) sentimental value (and looks good on your mantlepiece) or b) is very rare.
