I'm listening to a 1930 recording of Hoagy Carmichael singing "Georgia On My Mind", which he wrote. It features, at the beginning, a lovely violin obligato by Joe Venuti, and a solo by him later on. Bix Beiderbecke solos on cornet (it was his very last recording session before he died, at age 28), and Jack Teagarden is heard in a lovely trombone solo as well. If you were to hear it, Carmichael's nasal twang might very well drive away any memory you had of the well-known Ray Charles version.
