So it turns out to be most likely some bug in the vbulletin software we use for the forums. We're struggling to fix the issue ourselves, so probably we'll wait now until we upgrade the software as it will most probably fix the issue at the same time. I'd expect this to happen in the next month or two. It would seem to only affect IE though, so if that's true, then I'd recommend using Chrome instead.
