Strategy Testing

Hi Guys,

New to TA but have been reading a couple of books on it.

What is the best way to test a given strategy on a set of old data? Are there particular websites/packages that allow you to do this?

Ninja trader is free to download and has backtesting capabilities. I've not used it myself but have heard good things.

I do my back testing using excel.

I'd also recommend Ninja trader - a few brokerages (Amp, Mirus, and probably others) do demo accounts with free data. If you're more interested in FX, then there are numerous brokers who offer free Metatrader demo accounts (IBFX, Alpari, loads more).
