Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding the NYSE Composite (Yahoo Ticker: ^NYA).

From Wikipedia, I get the understanding that the volume shown for the ^NYA is only for stocks traded through the NYSE, which would be a bit misleading when doing analysis on volume.

There are ~50 different stock exchanges in the U.S. To quote from the NYT: "The much-discussed “stock market” — with its connotation of a single entity — is a misnomer. Investors can buy and sell stocks through about 50 markets in the United States. Most of the trades are placed through computer networks, at the direction of computer programs, and orders are routed automatically to the market offering the best price. "

Does the volume in the ^NYA take into account NYSE stocks traded through these different exchanges?

Thanks for anyone that can help.
