I am looking for software that will find me a list of instruments (indices, currency pairs, shares etc.) whose previous 3 daily bars have formed a head and shoulders pattern, upright or inverted.

Will a data-mining feature do this for me? :cheesy:

Thanx

A head and shoulders made of only 3 bars?

Well, you can't deny that it looks like a H&S pattern. Many people wouldn't know what I was talking about if I had called it, more correctly, Morning/Evening star.

Over to you, clever clogs. :D

It would have made more sense to me if you had called it morning start /evening star.. :)

Evening star -- a major top reversal
pattern formed by three candlesticks.
The first is a tall white real body, the
second is a small real body (white or
black) which gaps higher to form a star,
the third is a black candlestick which
closes well into the first session's white
real body.

Morning star -- a major bottom reversal
pattern formed by three candlesticks. The
first is a long black real body, the second is
a small real body (white or black) which
gaps lower to form a star, the third is a white
candlestick that closes well into the first
session's black real body.

WTF is a morning "start"? Are you winding me up CC? :cheesy:

Updata TA allows you to scan a list of stocks for a number of candle patterns, and you can add yr own as well. Never needed to do that though as the ones that come with the system seem to be quite exhaustive.

Thanx Vol, that's just the sort of reply I was hoping for. I'll have a look at Updata TA.

Thanx again

Also take a look at Amibroker. The link below is a link to the formula library

http://www.amibroker.com/library/list.php

Type candlesticks into the search and you wil find several ready made candlestick recognition formulae, which you can use as they are or adapt to suit your own analysis.

You will find that the first one called Candlestick comments includes both morning and evening stars.
