Hi

Looking to buy Metastock profx, but not seeing a lot of threads on this package

Q's
1) Is this package worth the while, or should I rather buy version 9.0 (only want to trade currencies)
2) Will I be able to backtest on profx, as I want to look at charts tick by tick to gain experience
3) Subscription or package
4) Can I obtain a user manual before-hand to study

Thank you for your help

Good luck to you all ;)

Believe there are fewer features in Profx v MS 9.
Have a look at/try MetaTrader 4 via http://www.alpari-idc.com/
MT4 is free, including the free realtime data feed.
There are several MT4 forums, join, view 'Files'; find 'Lightpatch' url:

Not sure how reliable the backtesting is in MT4, there are complaints about MS's. Most reliable reported backtest program is 'TradeSim': http://www.compuvision.com.au/
Neither MS nor MT4 display 'tick' data, smallest timeframe is 1min.

3) Subscription or package

Subscription can be cancelled.

4) Can I obtain a user manual before-hand to study

See your PM.

I have MetaStock Quotecentre running now for FX, and last month I subscribed to MetaStock Pro FX, I found the scaling a problem for me, but I reinstalled MS 9 Pro, and collected data in Hyperserver Lite and is was much better. You can rent Pro FX for a month before you decide which I think is better that laying out $1K for the program only to find you don't want to keep it.

I agree with TDR, Metatrader is better and nearer to your trading account with the quotes, I found that the data was more spikey with QuoteCentre but not as bad as Esignal. You can get Hyperserver from www.hyperserver.it and it's free, but you must install MS for Signal broadcast not Esignal.

Another note, I have changed my mind, as I have reviewed my charts, I have realised that the MS Quotecentre does have the best quality data feed for Forex, and if you have MS 8 or 9, you can collect data and feed it into MS without upgrading to FX pro. I still recommend that you take a trial for a month or two first.
