Hi Adamus as I understand it brokers can apply "flattening" or averaging algorithms the idea being that they don't send out massive amounts of tick data and they needn't process huge volumes of raw data - trillions of dollars of trading around the world creates an aweful lot of data for a broker...

Alpari no longer offer Historical data and alternative data sources don't reflect the flattening algorithims used by brokers and can give false signals with sensitive EAs. Does anyone have Alpari historical data that they would share for EURUSD and GBPUSD pairs ?

When I rang ODL and they said that MT4 cannot be used on thier spreadbet accounts - are you using it a spreadbet account ?

Sure, sorry should have done that at the outset http://www.justspreads.co.uk/metatrader.htm I contacted them today and they outlined that they don't do direct trading from MT, they encourage you to use it for indicators etc but then to place your bet with them seperately on thier web platform...

Maybe I have missed something - justspreads.com clearly say you can use metatrader on thier spreadbetting platform on thier website, they dedicate an entire page to it. So what if its an LCG whitelabel - if it does the job, use it. Unfortunately ODL do not allow use of MT on thier spreadbetting...

Justspreads.com claim to - don't do it myself yet so can't give any feedback, perhaps you can if you try it.

Simon, I have been searching for a couple of months for a SB company that allows API trading but none exist. Many companies offer this with a non-SB account, even those who also offer Spread betting options. I am curious if this is a legal issue, a technical issue or one of demand. If its...

Simon, why do you (or any other SB companies) not allow clients access to your data to run automated backtests ? I personally get a subscription to eSignal to do this, but (a) thats an additional cost and (b) its results are not the same as those of SBs due to spreads/sources/price engine etc...
