Hmm just as I want to get back into Spread Betting I hear all this talk of it going downhill? It'll be hard to replace it, from memory they had a solid customer service team and a reliable platform. Took me ages to find them to begin with :/

Rookie question here. What happens if a position turns sour and I hit my margin? Will it just automatically close the position?

Will OP get an account with IG? They have a small barrier to entry from what I remember (they want to know what your income is and savings).

Just had massive issues with the Dow (about 1:30). My charts were useless (at least 5 seconds lag) and my P/L was jumping around like crazy. Main window wasn't responsive either so I couldn't close when I wanted. Technical issues during a volatile time? Very annoying.

So next month I'm going to be in the US for a couple of weeks, does this mean I can't trade on my account? I emailed CS and they told me not to use my account, but they signed off the message advising me to seek independent legal advice. So yeah...shall I take this as a hint or just leave off...

I'm not successful by any means. I don't rely on spread betting for my main income because it's just too volatile and I'm still too inexperienced. But it's possible to do well. I invested only a small amount of my savings, watch my open positions like a hawk, keep a manageable £/point and only...

I think we're all just waiting for something to happen. The market seems very sluggish at the moment. Keeping an eye on the Dow now instead.

I posted impulsively. I was referring to the FTSE drop from 5339.3 to 5322.0 between 12:44-12:46. Because my chart was zoomed right in, it looked dramatic when I glanced over. :p.

That was an impressive drop just now...
