    FSA personal account restrictions

Thanks for the replies. I'm taking the job, so looks like I will have to take a much longer term outlook on any trading that I do in future.

    FSA personal account restrictions

I am about to start a new job with an FSA registered fund management group in a non trading/ inestment management capacity. However, they seem to have extremely tight rules relating to personal account dealing. ie strictly no trading in spreadbetting, CFD's etc, no short trades allowed, any...

Hey JT Long time no speak. Not been about these boards for a good while now. Good to see you having a crack at full time trading. Me, I'm still plugging away at it part time, trying to build my trading pot. - Slowly but surely!

GFT - Closure of UK Accounts

It does seem a bit suspicious that they had to shut down UK accounts so quickly but as far as I am aware, they never were regulated by the FSA in the first place (FSA being a UK regulator and GFT being a US based broker). Not sure that the FSA could have any say in the matter?

GFT - Closure of UK Accounts

It looks as though I may have to re open my account with GFT at this rate, if rules allow in January as I have been unable to find a broker which offers the same level of dealing / charting platform via PDA. I have never had a problem with GFT until the major inconvenience of them closing my...

GFT - Closure of UK Accounts

Just returned from 2 wks hols to find an email saying my gft account is going to be closed. The main reason I used them was they offered PDA dealing and realtime charts, as well as their all round competitiveness and a few personal recommendations. Anyone know of other fx brokers with PDA...

US to UK - Tax Issues

Interesting! I fully understand that to the person actually trading the instruments, there is little or no difference between trading fx via a broker or SB. Indeed you have highlighted that in cmc's case there is no difference other than slight differences in the trading platform. There are...

US to UK - Tax Issues

Hi At what stage has currency trading been classed as spreadbetting for UK tax purposes? Presumably you mean when using a "real" fx broker such as fxcm, oanda, gft and the like? I know this is virtually the same as using a sb co when looking at the mechanics of the actual method of trading...

    timing ?????

Hi 1.30pm UK time (currently 1.30pm GMT) is the time generally considered to be the start of US trading in FX. This time is also a common news release time and can cause some quick moves/ continuations/ reversals around this time. I have to agree though, doesn't seem to be anything out of the...

FX brokers suitable for UK trading.

PS If you want to trade fx via SB, I used CMC spreadbet (d4f) and would agree, customer service is pretty poor but great spreads and little evidence of the infamous SB bias etc (on fx that is- no experience of other instruments). Capital spreads seems a good alternative but I do not have an...

FX brokers suitable for UK trading.

I had 12 months expereince of trading FX via SB when I opened an account with FXCM. I have done no other trading (ie futures/ stocks). Although their application form hade no option for SB, I asked the question and they said trading SB was acceptable. I ticked the box that said I had...

I merely ask; will this last?

A cable chart (GBP/USD) shows how many USD you can buy for £1. ($1.9077 as I speak). Therefore if the price on the chart is moving north, then USD is weakening, £ is strengthening. Therefore if USD weakness "bottoms out", this will appear as a peak on the cable chart. If USD weakness suddenly...
