I just don't understand the controversy here. Which beginner wouldn't do better by following these rules than not ? The article isn't claiming to be a complete solution and it's clear the guy writes as someone who sells training for a living, which he's quite open about !

Quite agree : depends on your individual needs. S&L also had quite a restricted range of companies etc. last time I looked.
