I am a newbie to Metatrader, so this question is probably naive and stupid, with hopefully a simple answer:

How do you display two CCIs with different periods in the same window (in order to spot crossovers)?

Nothing I try seems to stop them insisting coming up in a separate window each. I am currently using the version of Metatrader from FXPro.com (using a free demo account).

Thanks,

M.

Thanks ... that's a shame! I've definitely seen a display of same. Must have been some other platform.

BTW, I'm only talking about displaying this as a user; Not talking about coding this.

BTW, by "in the same window", I mean for the 2 CCIs to be in the same data window at the bottowm, not to be in the normal price bar|candle window. (i.e. similar to what you get by default with MACD or Stochastics, and no doubt other things).

Thanks,
M.

if the image shows is what you want;
top one is an MT-4 file called cci_histo which allows you to be clever with colours.
the lower frame shows two CCIs overlaid in same frame.

You apply the first CCI as normal, creating the first frame:
Then, you left-click on the CCI from the left-frame "Navigator", and DRAG onto the first CCI frame;
let go, and you get to set the parameters of the second CCI.
MT-4 will then overlay the second CCI onto the first CCI frame.

hope that helps (I am avoiding posting on T2W too much, this doesnt count as a post, as its just helping out!)

EDIT: tried uploading the cci_histo.mq4, but got upload fail error! but it is posted here on T2W somewhere.
EDIT2: trying out 4shared.com!

Many thanks Trendie. That certainly looks like the sort of thing I had in mind.

I got the idea of CCI crossover from "Woodie"'s method. I am no longer following his approach, but I still think CCI has a lot of mileage in it (when used in conjunction with other tools).

M.

P.S. - Update: Talking of "Woodie", I joined his "club" in order to read about his method. Looked interesting at first, although from his "live" demos, it seemed to miss as many good trades as it took. Then I began to read some negative stuff about his whole setup, and I lost interest. I'd given my details in order to register (could have made some of it up, but I chose not to for whatever reason). Yesterday I got a call from his sidekick (in the USA), probably trying to sell me his expensive software, although we didn't get that far. Today I got an email trying to sell me his DVD CCI course, a snip at only $929.50. I definitely won't be bothering, although as I say, I do think CCI has something to offer, along with other tools.

Hi,

Would like to ask, is there a way to overlay moving average on the momentum indicator? I tried your wa with the CCI, but it seems like it onl work when they are both indicators and are shown on "Indicator window". Moving average is always shown in the main chart window. Is there away to show moving average in the indicator window?

many thanks!

Ronnie

yes, there is a way.

attach your first indicator as per normal;
then select and DRAG the MA indicator ONTO the first indicator;
release the mouse-button;
on the Parameters bit, select the "Apply to:" drop-down selector;
choose "First Indicators Data";

This will apply the Moving Average to the value of the momentum indicator.
hope that helps.
