Hi All,

I've created a very simple moving average strategy backtester as a hobby project that I hope will be of interest to traders. I'd really appreciate if you could take a look and if possible answer the following questions:

1) What features does it need to be useful
2) Are there any related ideas that would be useful to you? e.g. MACD backtester

You can find it at

www.movingaveragebacktest.com

Thanks for taking a look! :)

To my amazement, I'm really impressed with this. The user interface is particularly nice

People could learn a great deal from using such a tool

suggestions for improvements, maybe add an equity curve, and trade statistics ?

very nice UI. check out a 26 - 36 day cross over the past 5 years. who said ma crossover systems were not profitable.

Possible improvements.
Pick instrument. On the current one it doesnt even say what it is.
as mentioned: equity curve.
choose lots/contracts.

but overall keep it simple (like it already is).

Thanks for checking it out and the ideas, I'll definitely stick them in.

On another note, I have had 40 visitors so far and there doesn't seem to be much interest in anyone getting alerts for any strategy. My thoughts

1) MA crossover to simple for people to be interested using in practice
2) Alerts button not obvious
3) some other reason

Any comments?

Hey, trying to private msg you but I guess I dont have enough posts.

Your MA Crossover tool is very cool. Better than anything else I have found out there. Especially with the short option included. Is there a way to test it back to year 2000 and also include a long MA up to 300? Since you asked for suggestions, some people like to compare a trade being done on the day of crossover, day after one or 2 closes, vs making a trade at end of the week, vs trading at the month end the crossover occurred. Another suggestion is when price crosses just 1 MA rather than 2 MA's crossing.

You can email me at [email protected].

Thanks. Again, really cool tester.

That's a great tool for the users of moving averages. I would like to find the best pair of moving averages on a particular issue. Would it be possible to add a button to increase or decrease the short and longer moving averages. The idea would be to quickly find the most profitable pair.

Also, is your app using simple moving averages, exponential, or front-weighted?

found this tool today and think its great, if you could add more functions to it i think you'd really be onto a winner here.
Here are some suggestions i don't know how hard these would be to code but i for one would be willing to pay for such a tool either monthly or one off fee.

1. Use of price crossing single MA (i know it an ma cross tester but..)
2. Define how much capitol on each trade.
3. Stop Losses .

Just suggestions , i can see this has great potential tho

thats a great website, shame it cannot run a million simulations and return the optimum result

You can check price crossing a variety of moving averages. Just enter "1" in the fast moving average box and a number of your choosing in the slow MA box. A one day moving average is not really a moving average, just daily prices.
