A plan

Hey Guys,

I've just been offered a job within the Kyte group starting in three months, mainly down to a few commitments i have until then. What i'm looking to do is, look around and possibly arrange some interviews with different companies to see whats on offer. Could someone be so kind as to list a few places i could look into, at the moment i've been told that Saxon and Candlestick are worth a look.

I'll list a brief background in case that helps with the recommendations, I'm 25, living in London and have been playing poker for the last 4 years, earning around £65,000 last year from around 1000 hours play. I'm educated to "A" level standard.

I'd avoid any firms that take on large numbers of people at the same time.

Dunno about Saxon, but last I heard Candlestick were something of a churn & burn getup (IMO) and that at least one of the directors was looking to sellout, hardly inspires confidence in the firm.

Kyte group are one of the bigger prop groups & self clear too -reasonably well thought of by those in the industry whom I've heard mention them. No direct experience with them myself.

Personally I can vouch for Marex Financial as probably the best prop arcade in the city, but their office had a waiting list recently for own accounters and I dont know if they are recruiting either.

If you are good at poker you may consider contacting Mamro Haden, they are a fund that sponsors good poker players just like traders and sends them off to all the top tournaments.

Thanks for the help, I'll probably end up taking the offer i've been given but i feel it would be stupid not to look around and see what else is on offer, so I wonder if anyone could take a look at the list DT posted and maybe give 5/6 companies that are defiantly worth a look and maybe some others to avoid.

TWI, I'm primarily a cash game player and while the idea of player a couple of tournaments seems appealing with recent legislation passed in the states i feel its probably best to make a move into a different field.

what exactly is the offer? is it a backed trading role? will you get any salary or is it pure profit split?

Where do you play and what limits?

Congratulations on getting a job at Kyte, especially considering you dont have a degree. Its a good company.

Its likely you wont be making money for at least two years because of relatively high costs and you will be starting out trading small size (trying to make 50 pounds a day). Its good you can still play poker on the side to supplement your basic wage, which is tough to live on in London.

I currently play a mixture of limits from $1/2 nl through to $5/10 and $5/10 limit through to $20/40 depending on my mood, the games on offer and the time i have to play.
