Default Toshiba Deal

May be of interest to some:

I have bought the Tosh Satellite L30-134 for €599 in PC World - Ireland.

Superb machine and performs just as good as my Sony Vaio - also less than1/2 price of the Sony.

Hi CYOF, how much cr*p was pre-installed on that machine, it seems things have changed since the days when I bought my Thinkpad a few years ago, clean OS and Thinkpad utilities, nothing else. Seems nowadays most vendors I hear pre-instal varying degrees of trial software and all sorts of AOL stuff (bit of a pet hate with me) I don't see why I should have to spend hours removing the damn stuff ona new machine, I am unfamiliar with what Toshiba put on

I'm currently running a Toshiba Tecra which, whilst its good for everyday and trading, I want something concentrated purely on trading. I've had a look around the regular laptop review sites, but I can't find anything whereas I can search for specific requirements, ie. speed, power but not games or audio spec.

Can anyone recommend a good laptop (pure trading only) and/or a website that lets me search for the specifics required?

Cheers

One of my old clients used to be a laptop repair specialist.

He reckons that the best laptops out there are IBM Thinkpads or Toshiba. He says that he rarely had to do any major repairs on either of these makes and that Acer laptops were always breaking down.

Top tips there straight from an expert !

Thanks

It is for my daughter for college - if I bought one for trading I would wipe HD and install XP professional - should only take about 45 minutes.

Toshiba also offer a free warranty upgrade online to collect and return - from drop in.

Yeah was just curious relative to a discussion I was having elsewhere, though that's a quick clean and reinstal, DBAN normally takes at least as long as that before the OS install, then downloading and installing the drivers, I'd allow 3hrs personally.

Toshibas do tend to be held in fairly high regard by the IT people I know, as were Thinkpads before the change of hands, I suspect the jury's still out on them at the moment. I have always had Thinkpads myself never had a problem with one, but will likely give Toshiba a go this time around.
