Historical stock data website

Anybody knows a free website where one can historically search for top stock gainers & losers based on Open/Close daily price?
There are lots of websites that are showing that but only for the current day (i.e. finviz.com). I do need to be able to go back at least few years.

Don't know why you need this, but I think you might be able to go back around 2 years for US and Canadian stocks.

What market are you looking for?

NYSE and NASDAQ ...I do need it for back-testing a strategy

What are you trying to test, as I have some experience with intraday trading, and might be able to save you some time and effort, depending on what you are trying to do.

@hirtop, check out yahoo finance like this https://beta.finance.yahoo.com.

They have for each listed asset a historic data section, which contains a few years.

Teletrader will screen globally or by regions based upon a multitude of criteria. You could screen your us stocks there and then go to the NYSE website.
NYSE webiste allows you view any stock traded in the US, even indicies and other financial instruments.

I find the NYSE to be more reliable about their own data than google, yahoo, etc. There are 252 trading days in a year. When I download the data, there should be 2520 entries. However, many times when you download historical data from google, yahoo, financial times, etc., the entries are short to about 2300-2400+ entries.

You could also call the data from your trading platform if you have IB.

hhiusa, thanks for the hint. Haven't thought of the exchange's own site, yet. Does this work for other markets like Germany and Japan as well? What is your suggestion?

The NYSE only works for US financial instruments.

Chi-X Japan provides free real time data, although a limited amount of volume passes through there. You can download the complete symbol list.
