Dat trading seems to be harder in the Uk than the US. but Im sure we could compile a list of stocks that you guys know about that are good for day trading.

Mytravel was pretty good before their share consolidation.

You guys know any?

Traderuk,

You are completely correct in your assumption that day trading Uk stocks is harder than the US. If London wanted to it could competely revolutinise the way it operated, but it wont.Look how the Nasdaq did exactly that in the 90's to create a market that gives traders a platform where they can compete on the same playing field as any market maker.Allows them to trade before and after market hours to take advantage of news and earnings reports.

Day traders volume is immense and has only added to the liquidity of US stocks, which has allowed commisions to drop as low as $1/trade and and spreads as small as 0.001c

If London opened its eyes it could seize an opertunity rather than live in the past.

I trade UK stocks as well but i have to swing trade them for 2-5 day runs rather than day trade them.Best stock recently for me swing trading has been RPT.

I have finally realised why the LSE sucks so bad.

Thanks Naz. Do yow know any american brokers that will allow UK citizens to trade with them? Whenever i try and apply to one it seems I need to be a US citizen.

I use www.directaccesselite.com.

One more thing, becuase US day traders make prices through ECN's, that anyone the world can execute against.ie i dont have to deal with a market maker just another trader, stocks tend to flow in a more classic way rather than the sometimes jerky movements that occur when only a small number of mm make a price.

NAZ.....are you trying to say that uk daytraders don't have access to the order book ?
FWIW, I've traded cfd's direct on the order book for the past 5 years in the uk.Its more expensive than trading the US but I daresay, just as profitable.(Point taken about not being able to trade premarket). Why on earth you need to swing trade rather than daytrade uk stocks is beyond me unless that's your regular mode of trading.Either its ignorance or more likely down to not wanting to trade the uk market regularly.

Rio Tinto.

Yes its been up down up and up. It still has more legs then a spider. Its long term rather then short, but worth a look.

Does it offer CFDs? It says something about margin trading. Is it the same thing as CFD?
thanks...

etrade allow trading us stocks from uk level 2

I have an etrade account that I opened in the uk for US stocks, I use their level 2 powertrader platform, the only difference is you don't get a visa debit card with the account in the uk and you have to pay taxes as a foreign national. I also us igindex for spreadbetting US stocks

Hi Guys!
A Newbie here so please expect a stupid question :)
can someone please let me know any online broker who provides margin trading for equities (not CFDS) and does not require huge depoit to open an account. My Limit is Below £4000.
Thanks in Advance!

I've also been looking at rio.l, very promising in the future. I would PREDICT that in the fourth quarter this year, this company is going to do very well. IMHO, it is a bad stock to invest in the short term (now - 9 months)

GFRD.l is also one I have been watching and I anticipate it to do well this year.

for all the reasons naz stated YOU might want to look at the us markets,if you havent perhaps its ignorance or more likely down to you not wanting to trade the us market's.

Its more expensive than trading the US but I daresay, just as profitable it can't be both more expensive AND just as profitable, that is impossible. :)

There are loads of short term trading opportunities on the LSE, I look for breakouts and trends and some of my trades are intraday. It depends how much margin and capital you have. I will admit though that a lot of my trades do turn into swing trades purely because some trends can last days here so you can lock in mammoth profits.

I regularly see short term trending stocks gain 20%+ on the LSE.
