Hello,

does anyone know when the Russell 2000 CME is moving to ICE? Is it this September or is it sept 2008?

Cheers Charlie

personally, I hope things don't change much, but I'm bit afraid...
I hope CME offers a decent replacement in case ICE doesn't offer the same trading stability & market type orders as GLOBEX.

Me to, I am a little concerned on the change over...as I am currently trading the ER2

Cheers for confirming that for me. I think that u should have a look at the S&P 400 Mid cap.... this is traded i believe on the CBOT and has a behaviour very similar to our friend the ER2. Volume is low but we do have time on our side.. also perhaps other traders such as our selves might move over to the S&P 400.

The YM has lots of volatility also but the volume can be a little thin but in 13 months the gap might have been atleast closed somewhat.

Cheers Charlie

Thanks Charlie, I've already been looking into the E-mini S&P 400 today actually :)
the moves are indeed very similar but volume is pretty thin though... definitely worried about slippage and orders not getting through. I've noticed volume < 50 on 5-min bars which is very low really, that will definitely cost me more than just the spread if I wanted to trade that. But perhaps a lot of traders will start to move over... also CME announced they were going to introduce new S&P e-minis (small cap 600 being a possibility).

Meanwhile, I'll continue to trade ER2 until I see that traders are leaving the instrument. I wonder how many people will make the transgression to ICE...

It would be interesting to hear from other T2W members who trade ER2 what their thoughts and views are.

The thing I liked most about the Russell was the huge potential for nice scalps.

I also trade the YM but I think it's more noisy and choppy at times.

Best of luck and let's keep eachother updated!

Seems like very little interest in this thread and concern about what's going to happen...

i heard an undate about 30 mins ago. ER2 is moving to the ICE on Sept of this year, BUT it will also be still trded on teh CME until sept next year. This might help smooth the process but i'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing.

I think u said that the CME will be offering a S%P 600 which might take the place of the Russell! We'll see what other prducts are offered to us. I too am also worried as my best system is traded on the ER2.

Cheers Charlie

Thanks Charlie. You're right there will be a period where you'll be able to trade ER2 on different exchanges. However I wonder how they are going to make that work in sync... anyway as long as CME offers it I still have a year to think about it. I'll definitely keep an eye out for volume starting next month. I really wouldn't like to lose this instrument in my trading arsenal.

ER2 no longer on IB

Just got a message saying that starting tomorrow the ER2 contract will no longer be traded

I am aware of the change to ICE but I thought CME was going to trade it until September next year?!

Any update on ER2 moving to ICE.

I got this from the CME:

============================

As previously announced, CME Group will no longer list Russell 2000 and E-mini Russell 2000 contracts as of the September 19, 2008 quarterly expiration as the result of a licensing decision made by the index provider, Russell Investment Group.

To help facilitate an orderly de-listing of these contracts, we will not list July 2008 and August 2008 serial month options on Russell 2000 and E-mini Russell 2000 futures.

Currently we list April, May, June and September 2008 contracts for Russell 2000 and E-mini Russell 2000 options. To maintain the integrity of these contracts, we will continue to add new strikes in accordance with current Exchange Rules.
Since last summer we have been working proactively with our customers who want or need to transition Russell 2000 open interest. Steps we’ve taken include offering:

• Fee waivers on our S&P SmallCap 600 and S&P MidCap 400 products
• Aggressive market maker incentive programs to help build liquidity in the
E-mini S&P SmallCap 600 and E-mini S&P MidCap 400 products.
• Intercommodity spread tools to help transition open interest
• Options on E-mini S&P MidCap 400 futures
• Free quotes on E-mini S&P MidCap 400 and E-mini S&P SmallCap 600 futures
so you can see the markets in action

Tried TF on ICE (NYBOT) yesterday and found it very thin. A stop which would have held on GLOBEX slipped alarmingly. Only 2 lines of market depth are available although apparently TO has 5 lines. Back-fill seemed non-existent on Quotetracker, although ButtonTrader backfilled eventually, taking longer than usual. Reports on ET are that volume figures are unreliable. I quickly went back to ER2 Sept contract which is trading as normal after roll-over day, but obviously need a longer term solution.
