Hi,

Complete newbie to trading but learning fast (I think). Which spread betting firm offers the best charting tools? Also what are good markets for newbies to concentrate on? Ive read that indices and oil are too volatile for beginners. I will be using a demo account for a couple of months before depositing a small sum.

Also I've heard about the entrance test for Optiver; 80 questions in 8 mins. This link is meant to be like the test www.dennisfleurbaaij.com/mathtest.php. If it is I wont bother to apply (I take too long on the 6 digit questions) Ive also been invited to an assessment at Futex but am getting mixed reviews...

Thanks!

It depends on what you want to spreadbet. Futures, Shares, Forex etc. If Forex I wouldnt advise a spread betting account, open a demo account with a fx provider.

If you want to trade futures or shares IGIndex are a very good company but I personally prefer ETX Capital as I find the platform very fast and easy to navigate and they offer a lot of news services although I dont use my spreadbetting account often as I trade futures for a prop firm so there may be better options! Prospreads is another company but it is aimed at the more professional spreadbettor by offering DMA spreadbetting (No spreads added to the price)

Indice's are fine to trade if you are starting out. If you go to Futex and trade futures im sure they will either get you trading the Bund or S&P500. A lot of companies like Futex get their trainees to trade these products. I learnt on the Bund and think it is a very good product to train on aswell as trade fulltime. Futex are a very reputable company although if you ever plan to go down the pay for training route, I have heard GTC are very good and might be worth a look.

On the Optiver front, im not sure what the entrance exams are like.

Cheers,
