What percentage return on capital committed (including additional funds earmarked during drawdowns) do you consistently expect to make from trading?

My calculation for myself is that 100 % a year is achievable.If I earmark $100k for trading , the funds deposited with broker may only be $20,000, I may only use 20 % of the account.I expect to make $100,000 by risk $20,000 in drawdowns.The $100k gives me a profit of $100 k = 100% p a.

What is the percentage return achievable from trading? The best hedge funds have made no more than 35% per annum consistently.

minimum of 5% per week, the smaller the account the higher the %. If my account size was £100million  then I would be happy with 10% p.a.

so, daft question actually as it's all relative:sneaky:

If one is trading the most liquid instruments like currencies, dax, dow, oil etc the size would make no difference. The return should be the same , unless trading stocks where liquidity can be scarce to achieve higher profits.

wrong!!

Please explain why?

I can understand higher margin requirements for bigger positions, but in my case 5 to 10 % more margin won't affect the results.

you're saying it's just as easy to make 100% p.a. on a £100 million account as it would be on a £5k account?

Not bad.

Most retail funds would be over the moon with 15% - 20% per annum.

Most retail funds would be happy if they made any profit over the last 12 years.

I get it , if trading $100k account i am trading 1 lot ,but with $100m we trading 1,000 lots.

Trading 100m sizes on euro usd can become difficult.

spot on....

plus, if I was making 20% per month on a £5k account and this grew to a £100k account I think it would be inevitable that I would intentionally reduce this return to 10% to half the risk...because 10% return would be acceptable in ££ terms for lower risk on this account size...if you get my meaning (it's all relative)

A great many are very poor certainly, although the graph you show is the index and looks to be without re-invested income, which is obviously a significant component for UK investors in particular.

Do they include loss of values of companies not in existence anymore, or companies withdrawn cheaply from the public?

I bet the actual losses are much worse.I bet you will get a great pension investing with the city.:devilish:

The ideal maximum account size for this question is $1m.We are talking about one man bands working from home ,trying to make a living from trading plus an extra return

This is probably not the place to try explaining this. But don't put any money behind that bet ;).

Trust me, capital-only graphs are useless, particularly in countries like the UK. To get an accurate picture you have to look at total return. The power of regularly invested income is remarkable over time.

I certainly wouldn't advocate passive investment by the way.

There are two 9 traders making over 100% a year.I find it very difficult to find any manual and/or automated or semi automated method/system which will make over 100 %.

Would you guys like to give us clues on achieving above 100 % ?Its the Christmas spirit.

To those who are curious .

I trade eleven trading systems simultaneously and fully automated in one major system, the second major system in final stages is a fully automated version of Zupconite pro (an absolute return money management system) using 25 trading systems, and third major system is a manual ,but 95 % semi automated version trading 7 currency pairs, dow, dax, oil and natural gas.

Just to give an idea of the information I went through, my hard drive has 220 gb of trading files consisting information on developing and testing systems and methods. For me it has not been an easy road.I have backtested tested over 200 systems and forward tested for over two years.

I find it hard to believe polls on forums are reliable. I suspect people who have for instance doubled a 1k SBing account will vote for 100% PA etc....

Having said that 100% or more PA is possible, it just depends on how much you risk and eventually what the market will take in terms of trade size.

In the first post ,I gave an idea of the draw down/account size ratio of 20%.If somebody is risking 100 % draw down ,responsible traders would not take such risks, they need to recalculate.
