So i saw a mobile phone advert that had an application for trading the financial market (pretty sure thats what i saw). So i am wondering is it possbile to view charts on a mobile? these charts run using java and the chart in particular i use is IGindex.

IG Index has phone-based apps, yes. MetaTrader also runs on mobiles. Great for monitoring trades between climbs at local indoor climbing centre.

that would explain your username then :) thats brilliant! well excited now, il be able to trade twice as much. Do you have experience with trading with your mobile personally? are the apps reliable etc. Thanks for the link Claudia, will check tht out

Hm good question.

IG Index: not used it enough to know if it is reliable or otherwise. Charting is crap - got to refresh.
Metatrader: it kept throwing up errors every time I clicked something... so I turned off error reporting. It seems to work fine for monitoring stuff; can even put in trend lines, fibs and indicators. Have closed trades. It's not ideal but if you want to trade or monitor stuff from work then it's better than no access.

if i can get indicators such as stockastics i dont mind having to refresh. Are the quotes from the trading app streamed at least? otherwise i can imagine never getting filled.. what phone do u have btw?

Wait a sec. IG Index's applet doesn't do indicators. It is very basic. MT4 does stuff.

I used an old XDA Mini S (HTC TyTn?). Works fine so I'll leave iPhones to people who give a ****.

Just be careful what you click. "Ooops! Accidentally, long 100 lots before non-farm!?"

checking positions from a phone is one thing, actually trading on a regular basis is for dreamers who fantasise they can use their crackberry to impress women whilst dining out at Le Gavroche...

Where should we take them, then??

Pizza Express. They do Peroni in big bottles and you can share dough balls as a romantic gesture before telling them you're minted and begging them for a blow job.

You sound like Americans :) i don't think women are as concerned with money as you make out, thats probably just us men. But err, women aside it is not feasable to trade on a mobile then you reckon? could you tell me your reasoning? it would make what you say easier to accept if i could understand the logic behind it.

If i can have a snapshot of a chart and a live streaming quote through some java app on a blackberry or iphone with a decent connection, i think it could work fine (though obviously i would prefer my pc).

I would probably try it anyway as being a student it would make all the difference, trading the power hours during pointless lectures.

One of my trading accounts is with ThinkOrSwim and they have an excellent, though still incomplete iPhone app. That said, I would never place actual trades on it, at least until they give an option to place OCO brackets, which I use exclusively. Charts are actually excellent and refresh with a faction of a second's delay in general.
I still think one needs to have at least one full-size computer screen available for trading. I trade futures, and I keep tabs on market developments that may warrant an early exit. A mobile phone simply asks for too much of your focus in exchange for reduced information flow and essentially very little convenience factor.

Not when you bored to tears on a bus. Even if it is not practical to trade on a mobile today, its only a matter of time. OCO brackets? i don't know what they are but i don't think i need them :S i trade forex, all i need is a chart and a buy an sell button.

OCO: order cancels order. Essentially you specify two working orders, one stop and one target. Once either is hit, the other is automatically canceled. You can use an OCO with ForEx as well.
Trading on a bus... one bumpy patch and you press the send button on the wrong pip, what happens then? LOL. IMHO, 'convenience' has a point of diminishing returns. However, if you get it working for you, you certainly got my respect.

haha! had to chuckle to myself at that thought, pips lost because of a dodgy bus driver. Well i will be sure to post it on the forums if i do. Purpose of this thread was i wanted to see if anyone else does.

I trade with Metatrader through an HTC Touch Pro 2 with windows mobile professional. I'm quite impressed with it :)
