i realise that i have went about learning trading all wrong, going by books, finding the holy grail.
So, with some thought, i'm taking a year away from here, to study price action. Perhaps this study will be the glue that sticks my knowledge together to form a half decent trader.
I'll be back in a year, hopefully wiser, maturer, and profitable.

not allowed to, just watch price, how it reacts when it is in certain states, by the time i realise how price works i will start to demo price action until i can trade it well. Only then will i trade with real money. Hey, i've got plenty of time!

That's a shame, was hoping you'd get your strategy sorted (y) - seemed like you were prepared to put the time and graft in. The thing about books is they are a good GUIDE, but ultimately you have to decide on a trading style that suits you. I think most successful traders have a unique approach (which may even seem crazy to others) - some are very simple, others very complicated but they probably all learned or at least validated their methods from books, etc. It's great if you can discover something for yourself through your own effort on the charts and then validate it by comparing it to others. Too young? Nah. Jesse Livermore started out reading the tape when he was 14? And he's not the only one who got started young. But yeah, you got time too.

Wish I'd had the good sense to start focusing on finance at age 15.

;)

when i was 15 i was more concerned about getting my end wet. that's the way it should be.

 Tell you one thing, mate being a Forex trader may not impress a 15 year old girl that much but it sure will impress an 18-20+ year old (the s*x is better then too!) So you could consider it 'ground work'. You've also got to consider whether you'd prefer to be a Forex trader or a father at 15 (I know what I'd rather be). imho ;)
